Vieira receives Iffy backing

GILLINGHAM striker Iffy Onuora has backed Arsenal's Patrick Vieira over the alleged elbow incident during the FA Cup tie at Highbury on Saturday.

The Frenchman already faces a Football Association hearing following an elbowing incident on Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink on Boxing Day, and he could face another investigation following the Onuora incident.

The Gills front-man was caught by an arm from The Gunners skipper, but he has insisted that the arm was an accident, and is willing to help Vieira beat any rap that might come his way.

"I was hit in one eye by Sol Campbell and then the other by Patrick, they were accidents," said Onuora.

"These things happen in football and I want to make it clear I don't believe there was any malice involved.

"Should Patrick need me to give evidence to support him I will be happy to do so."
