Liverpool's injury-plagued Danny Ings was substituted 36 minutes into the U23s match against Manchester City on Sunday.

Ings was complaining of discomfort before being removed as a precaution by U23s manager Neil Critchley.

The 25-year-old was replaced by Yan Dhanda, who went on to score the winner in Liverpool's 1-0 Premier League 2 contest at Prenton Park,

Critchley later revealed he and his staff are taking extra care with Ings ahead of a busy schedule for Jurgen Klopp's side.

"It's more a precaution than anything," he told Liverpoolfc.com. "He felt something very early in the game and he wasn't quite right, so we're not taking any chances with Danny and there are plenty of first-team games to come.

Jurgen Klopp hasn’t addressed key defensive problems at Liverpool, says the Daily Telegraph's Matt Law on the Sunday Supplement.

"We'll just look after him and assess him, but I'm sure he'll be fine."

Ings' Liverpool career has been blighted by injuries since joining from Burnley in 2015. The striker missed most of the last two years with knee problems after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in training in Jurgen Klopp's first week as manager.
