Malaysian Football Federation says sorry for Benayoun abuse
Chelsea have received an apology from the Malaysian Football Federation after Israeli midfielder Yossi Benayoun was the victim of anti-Semitic abuse.
Benayoun was the first Israeli in recent memory to play in Muslim-majority Malaysia when he took to the field on 21st July.
The Football Federation of Malaysia did not admit the abuse occurred but said "if such an incident did happen, we would like to apologise to the player ... and also to Chelsea FC."
It said the abuse would have "involved a small section of spectators."
Chelsea said on Wednesday that anti-Semitic abuse was "offensive, totally unacceptable and has no place in football."
Apology accepted
Chelsea later issued a response to the Malaysian FA's apology, saying they are now prepared to draw a line under the incident.
"We appreciate the prompt attention the Malaysian FA (MFA) has given our complaint," the Blues said in a statement.
"Chelsea Football Club is committed to eradicating all discriminatory behaviour from the game and urges the MFA to take appropriate steps to stamp out this type of behaviour in future.
"The club and Yossi accept the apology, and the matter is now closed."
