Blues boss wants more intensity after draw with Apoel

Carlo Ancelotti believes Chelsea must do better after watching his side draw 2-2 draw with Apoel Nicosia at Stamford Bridge. The Blues had already qualified as UEFA Champions League Group D winners but allowed Apoel to take a sixth minute lead when Constantinos Charalambides crossed for Marcin Zewlakow to score. Chelsea then saw a Joe Cole goal disallowed for offside before Michael Essien made no mistake on 19 minutes with a powerful swerving effort from 25 yards, although the Ghanaian had to go off with a hamstring injury soon after. Didier Drogba then added a second on 26 minutes after a flowing Chelsea move but substitute Nenad Mirosavljuevic netted with three minutes to go to earn Apoel an unlikely draw. Afterwards, Ancelotti revealed Chelsea will assess the extent of the damage on Essien on Wednesday but admitted the Ghana midfielder is a doubt for the Premier League showdown with Everton this weekend. "Michael has a problem with his leg. We will look at him over the next few days and check on him tomorrow," Ancelotti told Sky Sports Xtra.

Hope

"We hope it's not a big problem. I think he will not be able to play on Saturday." Ancelotti believed his side needed to do better, play with "more pressure, more intensity" although he had been pleased with the way the Blues had reacted in the first period after going a goal behind. "We played very well the first half, second half we needed to continue to play football with intensity," he said. "It was not good for us, we played too slowly and too softly. "It was not good and we have to do better: concentrate, more pressure, more intensity. "Our aim was to get first place but we have to do better."
Drogba unhappy
Meanwhile, Drogba conceded the Blues had under-estimated the threat of the Cypriot minnows. The Ivorian striker said: "We were not concentrating. We thought, maybe, it was going to be an easy game but in the Champions League there are no easy games. "We said 2-1 was going to be a good result but Apoel gave everything. "We will go to training and try to correct what went wrong. "This was frustrating because we had some chances - a lot of chances - but we have to play more together and defend together too."
