Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah has joined Roma on a permanent deal following his successful loan spell in the Italian capital last season.

Salah, 24, helped Roma to a third-place finish in Serie A with 14 goals in 34 appearances last season having spent half of the previous campaign on loan at Fiorentina.

The Egypt international made only 13 league appearances for Chelsea after joining in an £11m deal from Basel in January 2014.

A statement on the official Chelsea website said: "Chelsea Football Club thanks Mohamed for his service and wishes him well for the future."

In June, Chelsea were cleared of any wrongdoing over the player's loan to Roma following a complaint from Fiorentina, who alleged breach of contract.
