Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of Watford forward Fernando Forestieri.

Sky sources reported on Thursday that the Championship promotion hopefuls had launched a £3m bid for Forestieri, who has not been part of Watford's plans in the Premier League.

And the transfer was announced by both clubs on Saturday, with the 25-year-old having signed a four-year deal at Hillsborough.

The striker had not featured in any of the Hornets' opening Premier League games under new manager Quique Sanchez Flores. Forestieri only played in their 1-0 Capital One Cup defeat to Preston North End last Tuesday.

The former Italy Under-21 international scored five times last season as Watford finished second in the Championship but, instead of continuing with the club at which he has spent the last three years, he becomes Wednesday's 12th summer signing.

The Owls' new head coach Carlos Carvalhal is also hoping to sign former Scunthorpe and Celtic striker Gary Hooper on a season-long loan from Norwich City, according to Sky sources.

Forestieri began his career as a youth at Genoa before spells with Siena, Vicenza and Malaga on loan.

He then signed for Udinese in 2012 but was shipped out on loan to Watford almost immediately, before signing for the club permanently a year later.
