In the latest part of our series we reminisce over some of the great team goals...
Vote: Collymore closing in vs Newcastle United, April 3 1996
In a classic end-to-end thriller, Liverpool had the final say with a terrific team goal to crush Newcastle hearts.
The game was tied at 3-3 in the dying stages when John Barnes and Ian Rush exchanged a couple of one-two passes as they moved towards the Newcastle goal. The two Liverpool greats momentarily obstructed each other before Barnes managed to lay a pass off to Stan Collymore.
The next thing we hear from commentator Martin Tyler is "Collymore closing in!" Anfield explodes with joy, only to leave Kevin Keegan and his men absolutely devastated. Who can believe that was 19 years ago?
Vote: Darren Anderton rounds off team goal vs QPR, November 27 1993
Away from home on a cold November night, Tottenham were 1-0 down for majority of the game.
Then, late in the game, a throw-in was taken from the right and six magnificent touches later the ball was in the back of the net. QPR were demoralised but Spurs’, and in particular Darren Anderton, were delighted.
Anderton had already let a goalscoring opportunity slip after he missed a penalty, but the England international needed a single touch to take the ball in to his stride and he made no mistake to tuck it past the diving Jan Stejskal.
Vote: Jack Wilshere finishes team goal vs Norwich City, October 19 2013
A culmination of good movement and intricate one-touch passing saw Arsenal score this stunning team goal. It was started by Mathieu Flamini on the edge of the Arsenal box and finished with finesse by Jack Wilshere.
Wilshere linked up with Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud to treat their fans to some extraordinary interplay to put the Gunners 1-0 up against a helpless Norwich side.
A team often criticised for trying to pass the ball into the net proved to their critics they possessed the potential to play the beautiful game.
Vote: Carlos Tevez total football vs Middlesbrough, October 27 2007
This was the fourth successive game in which Manchester United scored four goals – the first time in 100 years. This feat would not have been possible without the exquisite interplay between Wayne Rooney and Carloz Tevez.
When Tevez signed for United that summer, the Argentine and the Englishman were heavily criticised for being players with extremely similar styles who would not work together. Rooney and Tevez, however, went on to show off their potential as a partnership.
This goal possessed all the right ingredients: quick thinking, great vision and a touch of class and Rooney’s fine back-heel, to setup the finish.
