Premier League: QPR owner Tony Fernandes has faith in Harry Redknapp

Queens Park Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes says Harry Redknapp will be remaining in charge of the Premier League club 'come what may' this season.

The turnaround in the dugout at Loftus Road has done little for the club’s fortunes in recent years, with 15 changes – including caretaker spells – made since Ian Holloway left his post in February 2006.

Instability off the field has been reflected by results on it, with QPR having spent the last four seasons either toasting promotion or battling relegation.

I think we’ve made our mind up to stick – we’ll just stick with Harry come what may. We want stability, we want players to know he’s the manager.

They are now back in the big time, with Redknapp having returned the club to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Consolodating among the elite is now the challenge and Fernandes says Redknapp will be given the support and time he requires in order to get things right – with the opening three fixtures of the new season delivering three points.

Fernandes told The Guardian: “What happens if we don’t win for 12 or 13 games?

“But I think we’ve made our mind up to stick – we’ll just stick with Harry come what may. We want stability, we want players to know he’s the manager. A different approach, I think.

“My whole life’s been stability. People who have worked with me have for a long time.

“I don’t believe football clubs can be any different.

“You only have to look at the most successful football clubs – Matt Busby, Bob Paisley, Alex Ferguson, they were all at their clubs for a long time. That’s a business principle that works.”

The next stage for QPR will see them face Manchester United, complete with record-signing Angel di Maria, once Premier League competition returns after the international break.

Fernandes is aware that his side will face a tough test against Louis van Gaal’s troops, but hopes Redknapp’s work during the summer transfer window will start paying immediate dividends.

He added: “Quality is quality – they just need a few things to go their way – but I honestly believe Harry’s got good enough players, so I believe we have enough.

“I believe the manager will say we never have enough, but he’s no different from any other manager. Unfortunately for Harry, I don’t have £56m to go and buy di Maria.”
