Burnley manager Sean Dyche says James Tarkowski's defending won them the game as they beat Fulham 2-1 at Turf Moor.

Sean Dyche says James Tarkowski's second-half block on the goal-line was what secured Burnley's 2-1 victory over Fulham.

Andre Schurrle scored a screamer in the second minute before two own goals in the first half saw Burnley register their third successive win in the Premier League.

But with Fulham pushing for an equaliser in the second half, Tarkowski made a spectacular goal-line clearance in the 50th minute to prevent substitute Luciano Vietto from scoring his first Premier League goal.

And Dyche was delighted with Tarkowski, saying his defender's block was "worth a goal".

"I thought the game was probably summed up from our point of view with a fine bit of defending from James Tarkowski," he told Sky Sports.

"He put in a fantastic block on the line and it reminds ourselves of some of the good qualities we have.

"I mean that sincerely. It's not just about the players and the ability, but it's about the detail and I thought that was a tremendous bit of defending. That's worth a goal for me and in the end that wins us the match."

The victory keeps Burnley further away from the relegation zone and Dyche is proud of how his side have bounced back after registering five Premier League losses in December.

He added: "I was smelling better performances because we had the blip against Everton [a 5-1 defeat on Boxing Day], and that was a harsh reminder. We've come out of that with three big league wins and a cup win.

"I'm proud of the lads for what they've achieved over time but they continue.

"Every time they get asked a question they continue to perform, so I want them to keep doing that.

"There's nothing done already but we have gained some ground. We are looking more like ourselves again and I think that's important."
