Poll: Man Utd and Liverpool fans back Pep Guardiola to have a successful first season at Man City

We've been polling Sky Sports customers to find out how successful they expect Pep Guardiola to be in his first season at Manchester City and some intriguing results have been thrown up.

It was confirmed on Monday that Bayern Munich boss Guardiola will take over from current City coach Manuel Pellegrini this summer.

Guardiola arrives at the Etihad with a glowing managerial reputation having won every trophy there is during his eight years in charge of both Barcelona and Bayern.

Using data collected from almost 2,000 sports fans, unsurprisingly the most optimistic supporters are those from the City of Manchester Stadium itself, with 91 per cent expecting Guardiola to win at least one trophy in his debut campaign.

In fact, 20 per cent of City fans actually think their soon-to-be new head coach can finish his first season with a treble.

But what about supporters from rival clubs though? Well, 21 per cent of all sports fans quizzed don't think Guardiola will win any major trophies in his first season at City.

Chelsea followers are the least optimistic of those questioned, with 33 per cent saying he will finish next season empty handed.

Interestingly, though, Liverpool and Manchester United fans are the most optimistic about how Guardiola will fare in his debut campaign in the north west, with only 14 per cent of the former and 20 per cent of the latter not thinking he will win a trophy in his debut campaign.

Meanwhile, half of Red Devils supporters and 55 per cent of all Reds fans believe the 45-year-old will win one trophy, compared to 43 per cent of the total sample and only 32 per cent of City followers.
