Five years after his death, former Newcastle United and England manager Sir Bobby Robson is remembered in a unique film on Sky Sports this Sunday entitled: ‘Once More For Bobby’.
Robson, who also coached the likes of Sporting Lisbon, Porto, Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven, Fulham and Ipswich Town during an illustrious 36-year managerial career at the very top, sadly died from cancer in 2009 aged 76.
And to raise money for cancer charities, ex-Newcastle defender Robbie Elliott has cycled 3,500 miles, a route taking in each of the clubs managed by Robson. The Geordie also met a whole host of stars along the way who worked under the legendary coach, including the likes of Paul Gascoigne, Gary Lineker, Andre Villas-Boas and Alan Shearer.
After hearing their stories and memories of Robson, Elliott then finishes his epic trip by receiving an emotional reception by supporters at St James’ Park.
Meanwhile, the film also interweaves the one-time left back’s journey with Sir Bobby’s own life story, with extracts from his autobiography read by actor Stephen Tompkinson, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet star Tim Healy narrating and acclaimed Sunderland band Field Music providing the accompanying soundtrack.
‘Once More For Bobby’ is on Sunday at 7pm on Sky Sports 1 HD.
