Rossoneri to give star striker until last minute to prove fitness

AC Milan will discover on Monday whether Alexandre Pato will be fit for their UEFA Champions League showdown with Manchester United. The Italian giants are anxiously waiting to find out if Pato will be available for the visit to Old Trafford next Wednesday, after being forced to leave the field in agony in last weekend's 3-1 win against Atalanta. But the news is better than Milan originally thought after fears were large that Pato had reinjured an abductor which kept the 20-year-old out for two months earlier in the campaign. The latest diagnosis means the Brazilian starlet is definitely out of Saturday's Serie A game at Roma but Milan boss Leonardo will be hoping his top goalscorer will be able to return to fitness, as the seven-time European champions look to claw back a 3-2 defeat from the San Siro first-leg of their Champions League encounter. A statement from the Rossoneri read: "AC Milan announces that Alexandre Pato today had an MRI that has shown a strain in his right bicep without real muscle lesion. "The player will undergo further tests on Monday morning." Pato has been Milan's main goal threat this season, scoring 12 goals in Serie A and two in the Champions League. The Serie A side will leave it until the last minute to make a decision on the player's fitness.
