United defender sets sights on silverware
Jonny Evans has admitted that the thought of not winning anything this season is a motivating factor.
Manchester United suffered a shock FA Cup exit at the hands of Leeds earlier this month but they are still in contention for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
Sir Alex Ferguson's men also trail 2-1 going into the second leg of their Carling Cup semi-final against Manchester City on Wednesday.
United have consistently claimed major trophies under Ferguson for the past 20 years and Evans does not want to be part of a team that is less successful.
"A big thing at this club is the fear of not winning anything and not finishing at the top," said the defender.
"The players want to be winners and there is something at the back of your mind that says you don't want to be part of a side that doesn't win anything.
"I am a young player who has come into the team over the last couple of seasons.
"I don't want to be remembered by the fans as someone who was part of a team that loses. You don't want to be known as a failure."
Ferdinand boost
Evans has provided valuable cover at the back when first-choice defenders Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand have been injured.
The return of Ferdinand against Hull City at the weekend puts pressure on Evans but he insists it is good to have competition for places.
"It is a timely boost to have Rio back," said the Northern Ireland international.
"He has unbelievable experience and his stature in the game is even more important.
"Competition for places is always good. It is just natural that the standard will increase because it brings that added edge.
"If you are not doing the business, the manager will be quick enough to bring you off."
