Liverpool have announced Tom Hicks Jnr has resigned as a director at the club after an alleged row with a club supporter.
The news comes in the wake of Hicks Jnr being accused of sending an abusive email to a Liverpool fan.
Reds fan Stephen Horner emailed the son of co-owner Tom Hicks Snr to express his concerns at the club's finances with Hicks allegedly replying to Horner with a torrent of abuse.
Liverpool fans' groups had called on Hicks Jr to resign and the American has now quit as a director of both the club and parent company Kop Holdings.
Hick has issued a statement apologising for his actions for sending the obsene email to the fan.
"I have great respect for Liverpool Football Club, especially the club's supporters," said a Hicks Jr.
"I do not want my actions to take away from the club's future, therefore I am resigning from the board.
"To the fans and to the club, please accept my sincerest apologies."
A club statement read: "Liverpool Football Club today announce that Thomas Hicks Jr has resigned as a director of both the club and its parent company Kop Holdings.
"Three new directors have been elected to the boards of both companies. These are Philip Nash, LFC chief financial officer; Ian Ayre, LFC commercial director; and Casey Coffman, executive vice president of Hicks Holdings."
American owners Hicks and George Gillet have infuriated Liverpool fans for failing to keep promises they first made when they gained control at the club and there have been numerous protests over the last few seasons calling for the pair to sell their stake in the club.
