Juan Mata scores opener before Marcos Alonso equalises for Chelsea
Sunday 28 April 2019 20:33, UK
An error from David de Gea helped Chelsea claim a 1-1 draw against Manchester United in a match that could prove pivotal to the top-four battle. We rate the performance of every player on show at Old Trafford...
Manchester United
David de Gea - 3
He only had two saves to make all match, but made an almighty mess of the first one to gift Chelsea an equaliser. Gary Neville said De Gea is "having a nightmare of a time" and this latest error could prove costly for United's top-four hopes.
Ashley Young - 6
Young has been criticised at times for his displays over the last few months, but here he was relatively solid in defence and also made seven crosses, four more than any other United player.

Eric Bailly - 6
Making his first appearance since March 6, Bailly was busy and also went close to scoring from a corner. Unfortunately he could be sidelined again after going off with injury.
Victor Lindelof - 7
Produced an assured display at centre-back and kept Gonzalo Higuain quiet.
Luke Shaw - 7
A positive performance from the left-back, who had already created a chance for Romelu Lukaku with a long pass before setting up the opening goal.
Ander Herrera - 7
Herrera was back in the team after a month out and served reminder of his all-action qualities. If he does indeed join Paris Saint-Germain in the summer then he will be a loss for Manchester United.
Nemanja Matic - 6
Having been dropped for the defeat to Manchester City in midweek, this was an improvement from Matic after his lacklustre display in the 4-0 defeat to Everton. However, he was fortunate to get away with catching Cesar Azpilicueta with an elbow.
Paul Pogba - 6
Pogba showed some nice touches but couldn't provide the spark that United needed from midfield. He also lost possession more times than any other player on the pitch (20).
Juan Mata - 7
Produced a neat finish to give United the lead and was lively in the early stages of the game. He did fade as the game wore on and was replaced in the 81st minute.
Marcus Rashford - 5
Without a goal in a month, Rashford never looked like ending his scoring drought against Chelsea. He also struggled to make things happen when he did get on the ball, despite appearing to have the pace to cause Chelsea problems. However, he was playing through a shoulder injury.
Romelu Lukaku - 7
A largely positive performance from Lukaku. Having spurned an early chance, he helped set up the opening goal with a lovely chipped pass over the defence. He also showed his strength to hold the ball up and won several battles. He did appear to run out of steam at times, and his fitness was questioned by the Sky Sports pundits afterwards.
Subs
Alexis Sanchez - 5
Wasn't able to impact the game in the final 25 minutes.
Marcos Rojo - 5
Perhaps fortunate not to be sent off for a late tackle on Willian.
Scott Tominay - 5
Not enough time to have an impact on proceedings.
Chelsea
Kepa Arrizabalaga - 7
He couldn't do anything about the goal, but, unlike his opposite number, Kepa was assured throughout, making three saves.
Cesar Azpilicueta - 5
Not the best performance from Azpilicueta, who was caught out of position at times and also lost out to Lukaku. He conceded four fouls but got away without a booking.
Antonio Rudiger - 6
Having returned to the side after a fortnight out, Rudiger battled hard until he had to go off with injury. It was his well-struck shot that De Gea spilled.
David Luiz - 6
A bit casual on the ball early on but improved and showed signs of his usual combative self.
Marcos Alonso - 7
While United's defence watched on, Alonso reacted quickest to score Chelsea's equaliser. He's still not the most convincing defender but does offer attacking threat to balance that.
Jorginho - 7
Produced a typically-controlled display in the middle of the pitch as he made more passes (49) than any of his team-mates. He also made five interceptions and won possession 12 times.
N'Golo Kante - 7
An energetic display from Kante, who played two key passes, made a couple of driving runs and also broke up play at times.
Mateo Kovacic - 5
Recalled to the starting line-up in place of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Kovacic did little to convince that he should keep his spot in midfield. He wasn't able to positively impact proceedings and was also booked.
Eden Hazard - 6
Tried hard and looked threatening on the ball, but was ultimately well marshalled by the United defence, who ensured Hazard couldn't impact the game.
Willian - 6
Like Hazard, there was plenty of desire and work-rate from Willian but he couldn't find a way past the United defence.
Gonzalo Higuain - 5
This was another display from Higuain that raises questions over his future with Chelsea. He struggled to get involved in the game and when he did get the ball he wasn't able to make anything happen. Perhaps he will improve with a full pre-season at Chelsea, but he hasn't shown much in his time at Stamford Bridge so far.
Subs
Andreas Christensen - 6
Did a decent job after coming on in the 65th minute for Rudiger.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek - 5
Didn't manage to change the game after being introduced in the 76th minute.
Pedro - 5
Slashed a shot over from inside the box after coming on late in the game.
