Cardiff suffered a miserable night in Preston on Tuesday as their unbeaten start to the season came to a resounding end with a 3-0 defeat.
The loss, combined with Leeds' victory over Birmingham meant Neil Warnock's side were knocked off the top of the Championship table, but it was an especially torrid night for City keeper Neil Etheridge.
Having already conceded to Josh Harrop and Sean Maguire, Etheridge fluffed a clearance on 76 minutes and the ball fell to Alan Browne on the edge of the centre-circle.
The Preston midfielder reacted superbly to drill a first-time shot from 50 yards, and although Etheridge should have atoned for his initial error, he seemed to misjudge his leap and could only palm the ball over the line to ensure there would be no late fightback.
