Jeff Stelling doubled the Super 6 consolation prize after a fan suffered last-minute heartbreak

Jeff Stelling stepped in to ease one fan's heartbreak after a last-gasp goal denied him the £250,000 Super 6 jackpot.

Ian Alger was poised to win big when Wayne Rooney scored his record-breaking 250th Manchester United goal with just seconds remaining against Stoke.

But Jonathan Calleri's 94th-minute goal in West Ham's 3-1 victory at Middlesbrough meant that Ian instead had to settle for a consolation prize of £5,000.

The dramatic twist compelled Stelling to dig deep into his pockets and double Ian's winnings to £10,000.

Stelling said: "What an incredible effort from Ian Alger and it's heartbreaking to hear that the jackpot was snatched away in such cruel fashion.

"It's hard enough to get one correct result, but to get five is really outstanding. I'll be heading down to the cash machine to get Ian's consolation to him as quick as I can!"
