Gary Deegan has revealed he wants to stay at Southend as talks continue about his future.
The midfielder's short-term deal at Roots Hall expired at the weekend but he is still training with the Shrimpers. Deegan joined on a three-month contract in August and is hoping to resolve his future before Saturday's visit of his former side Northampton. "The talks have been going on for too long now really and I want to nip them in the bud and get it all sorted out," Deegan told the Southend Echo. "We're still talking at the moment but I want to stay and then try to get back into the starting 11. "The team's on a good run and I want to be a part of that to try and help the lads get promotion this season." Deegan has made 12 appearances for Southend this season but was left out of the squad for the 2-1 win over Tranmere on Saturday.
