Wolverhampton Wanderers have decided against putting terms to trialist Juan Agudelo, with the USA international short of match fitness.
The 21-year-old is available as a free agent following Stoke City’s decision to terminate his contract on the back of work permit issues.
He is considered to be a player of great potential, with those at the Britannia Stadium of the opinion that he could one day be worth in excess of £10million.
He’s been here on trial and we thank him for coming here and training and hope he enjoyed his time with us, but both parties will now move on.
Wolves, confident that they could get around the paperwork problems, were eager to take a look at Agudelo and offer him a second shot at British football.
They too have decided to release him, though, with Kenny Jackett claiming too much work would be required to bring the youngster up to Sky Bet Championship speed.
He said in the Express and Star: “Juan is not a player we’re going to pursue. We felt match fitness was the key for him.
“To get him up to Championship standard he’d need to play games and it’s hard to go from nothing straight into the Championship.
“That can be tough, and while the odd player does it, most people don’t – you need a run of games and need to build up. It was nothing to do with his ability levels, just that he hasn’t played.
“Drawing some likenesses, we also have some players out on loan playing regularly who could come back in a good rhythm and with match fitness under their belts.
“He’s been here on trial and we thank him for coming here and training and hope he enjoyed his time with us, but both parties will now move on.”
