Christian Abbiati says he never considered leaving AC Milan over the summer and cannot imagine joining another club.
The veteran goalkeeper is believed to have had several options to weigh up during the most recent transfer window.
With Milan having brought in Diego Lopez from Real Madrid, the 37-year-old was expected to move on in search of regular game time.
He was, however, to stay put and enter the final year of his contract at the San Siro.
Abbiati says that was always his intention and has reiterated that he would find it difficult to sever ties with Milan after 16 years on the club’s books.
He told Sky Sport Italia: “I remained here because I am a Milan fan.
“After many years here, I couldn’t see myself in another jersey, even if there was the possibility to play more.
“In August I wanted to show that I was prepared to be part of the team and not only think about myself.”
Abbiati also says that positivity has returned to the Milan ranks following the appointment of Filippo Inzaghi as new head coach.
He added: “I think the group and the coach are two essential things for us.
“The road is long, but we are doing a good job.”
