Former Iceland international faces an uncertain future at Reading
Brynjar Gunnarsson expects to find out soon whether he is part of Reading's first-team plans this season.
The 36-year-old completed his UEFA B coaching course last summer and is being lined up for a backroom role at the club.
But his priority is to earn a place in Brian McDermott's 25-man playing squad for the Premier League campaign.
He said: "Fitting into the squad is the main thing for me and hopefully I can play some part.
"At the moment I'm not stressing over it - we will just see how it goes over the next couple of weeks. I imagine it will be sorted out, hopefully quickly.
"I want to be in the 25-man squad and involved as a team and I'll probably be more involved in coaching somewhere too."
