Garde close to boosting defensive options
Lyon are on the verge of boosting their defensive options by signing Bakary Kone on a four-year contract from Guingamp.
New Lyon boss Remi Garde has lost Cris and John Mensah to injury and has now lined up a deal to add Kone to his squad.
However, Garde insists the Burkina Faso centre-half is not a panic buy as he has been a long-term admirer of the 23-year-old.
"We are on the way to having a new recruit," Garde told the club's official website.
"The unavailability of John Mensah and Cris has rushed things a little but Kone is a player we had targeted, who we followed for some time.
"I myself have seen many videos of him. This is a player who has potential and room for improvement."
Kone could be drafted into the Lyon squad to face Ligue 1 new boys Ajaccio on Saturday if the formalities of the deal can be wrapped up in time.
The player had been linked with German clubs Hoffenheim and Freiburg, as well as Turkish side Bursaspor.
