Stephen O'Halloran has agreed a one-year deal with Carlisle following talk of him joining for pre-season club training.
Following further talks with the Cumbrians since Thursday, the left-back has now penned a pre-contract agreement at Brunton Park which will lead to a 12-month deal, which also includes the option of a further year. O'Halloran, released by Coventry at the end of last season, will join up with his new team-mates next week before putting pen to paper on August 1. Regarding further additions to his squad, manager Greg Abbott told the club's official website: "We're still actively looking for a goalscorer, but that's the same for every club in the country. "We have two obvious players, even though I won't name them, who we are talking to and they are lads who haven't yet signed for anyone else. "If they do decide to go to another club then we might have to look at a top Premier League club to utilise the loan system and do it that way. What we don't want to do is rush into something without having explored every avenue first."
