Keeper ready to call it a day, as Nene eyes Brazil call-up
Gregory Coupet has revealed that he is contemplating hanging up his boots at the end of the season.
The 38-year-old goalkeeper finds himself filling back-up duties to Apoula Edel at Paris St Germain this term, with his game time severely limited as a result.
He did figure in Tuesday's French Cup semi-final clash with Montpellier, but that outing was a rare high in an otherwise frustrating campaign.
Coupet admits that now may be time for him to consider walking away from the game, with first-team opportunities only likely to diminish further in the future.
"In principle, that could have been my last match," the former France international said following a 1-0 defeat to Montpellier.
"Football has given me a lot and I couldn't have asked for any more."
Experience
Meanwhile, as Coupet prepares to bring the curtain down on his career, Nene is hoping to open a new chapter in his.
The PSG winger has turned out for his native Brazil at U23 level, but is yet to earn senior recognition.
He is now 29 years old, suggesting his time may have passed, but national coach Mano Menezes has offered Nene hope by admitting he remains in his thoughts.
He said: "We are still following Nene closely. Nene is having his third good season in a row in Europe.
"He can still dribble well and continues to score on a regular basis. He also has a lot of experience.
"Rebuilding the national team will not only mean calling on young players. A 30-year-old player can also be very useful. Experience helps to balance the team."
