Midfielder rewarded with two-year contract

Hoffenheim have announced that Tobias Weis has extended his contract with the Bundesliga club until 2012. The defensive midfielder's current deal was set to expire at the end of the season but he has been rewarded with a new contract. The 24-year-old was on the books at Stuttgart before joining Hoffenheim in 2007 and helping them into the Bundesliga for the first time in the club's history. Weis rose to prominence last season as he helped Hoffenheim become surprise pace-setters, but the south-west side fell away to ultimately finish seventh.

International bow

That form earned Weis a call-up to the Germany squad and he made his international debut as a substitute in the friendly against United Arab Emirates in June 2009. Weis made 31 league appearances last season and 10 so far in the current campaign, which sees Hoffenheim lying mid-table after 27 games.
