Hoops boss not getting too excited about Verkhovtsov

Celtic boss Tony Mowbray is not getting carried away at the prospect of signing defender Dmitry Verkhovtsov. The Belarus international reportedly jetted into Glasgow for transfer talks, although Mowbray insists the club are simply assessing his fitness. Verkhovtsov labelled the prospect of joining Celtic 'the chance of my life' and that he was eager to finalise a Parkhead switch as soon as possible. However, Mowbray insists nothing has been agreed with his club Naftan Novopolotsk and that there is much to do before a deal is completed.

Testing

"He is not training, we have been testing him to see how fit he is and how strong he is," said Mowbray. "The tests will last two days. "But we are not going in to it thinking we are concluding anything or not concluding anything. "He has played in some pretty high-profile World Cup qualifiers against some pretty decent teams, one of them being England. "But he is not our player, he is at another club in Belarus. "There is a lot of water to go under that bridge so I wouldn't be getting too excited about it."
