Dons to miss out on free agent midfielder
Mark McGhee fears Aberdeen will miss out on free agent midfielder Stephen Hughes this summer.
The midfielder, formerly of Leicester and Rangers, is available on a free transfer after the expiration of his Motherwell contract.
Recently relegated Norwich City offered Hughes a £7,000-a-week contract at Carrow Road, although that was shunned by the 32-year-old.
McGhee admits the Dons cannot compete with the likes of League One Norwich and feels they will be unable tempt Hughes to Pittodrie.
Can't compete
"We simply can't compete financially with the likes of Norwich who might be relegated but play to crowds of 25,000," admitted McGhee.
"Hughes is a really good player and would walk it at that sort of level of football and I also understand why he has knocked the deal back for now.
"I knew the story when I came to Aberdeen in terms of what I have to spend and what I will do is spend wisely."
