Graham Kavanagh has no plans to hang up his boots just yet, despite stepping into coaching.
The veteran midfielder is part of the backroom staff at Carlisle and is helping to lead the club's pursuit of fresh faces this summer.
However, the former Republic of Ireland international is adamant that he can still play a major role for Greg Abbott's side next term.
Kavanagh will turn 36 in December and has spent almost 20 years as a professional, but insists he is still capable of competing at League One level.
"Just because of my age, I'm no different to any other player. I still get a buzz from making a pass and sliding into tackles, so I want to continue for as long as I can," he told the Carlisle
News and Star.
Optimistic
"But I don't want to play and not do myself justice, so I'll know and the gaffer will know when it is time to focus solely on the coaching side. At the moment, I still feel really fit and know I can go out and do a good job.
"It's a big season ahead of us and everybody is very optimistic about what could happen.
"We will be looking to get players in and freshen the squad so there will be pressure for places.
"Greg and I sat down last season and said we needed a young, energetic box-to-box midfielder who is totally different to what we have.
"We have a few ideas about players and we want to bring in someone, develop them and make an investment on them which is important to clubs like Carlisle."
