Stimson encountering frustration in bid to boost squad
Mark Stimson has revealed his frustration at trying to add a striker to his Gillingham squad.
The Gills manager had been hoping to conclude a deal before the weekend's 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town, with Bas Savage reported to be a target.
Savage subsequently signed for League One rivals Millwall and Stimson acknowledged a potential recruit had slipped through his grasp.
"This striker I am after is getting more and more frustrating by the day," said Stimson.
"I thought we had one in the bag. Unfortunately, the player rung me back an hour after I thought I had clinched the deal and told me that he was going somewhere else."
Cogan surprise
Stimson also admitted midfielder Barry Cogan, who has not played for almost a month, has turned down a loan move to a Blue Square Premier club.
He added: "Barry had an opportunity to go out and play some football, but unfortunately he turned it down.
"It was a surprise because he said he wanted to play, so I got him a club in the Conference. He said he didn't think the move was right for him, so that was frustrating."
