Sheffield Wednesday claimed their first points of the season with a win over Hull City, while Bristol City are still unbeaten.
The Robins, however, missed the chance to go top as Clarke Carlisle scored a late equaliser for Burnley at Ashton Gate. Leaders Watford only drew against struggling Queens Park Rangers.
Elsewhere, Crystal Palace and Barnsley both left it late to win against Sheffield United and Southampton respectively.
Blackpool were unable to hang onto a lead twice as Mark Yeates netted both Colchester United's goals in a 2-2 draw at Bloomfield Road. Yeates' first cancelled out Andrew Morrell's opener before he netted again two minutes after Shaun Barker had looked to have given Blackpool all three points.
Clarke Carlisle's acrobatic equaliser in stoppage time gave Burnley a point against unbeaten Bristol City. The visitors had their eyes on inflicting a first league defeat on Gary Johnson's side when Andy Gray scored from close range after Wade Phillips had hit the post. But Darren Byfield's double (80 & 86) turned the game in City's favour before Carlisle scored the late leveller.
Ben Watson fired home from the penalty spot in the 89th minute to relieve the pressure on Crystal Palace manager Peter Taylor with a 3-2 home win over Sheffield United. Mark Hudson put Palace behind with an own goal shortly after half-time but the introduction of Dougie Freedman looked to have been an inspired substitution. Freedman set-up Tom Soares for the equaliser (60) and then created Carl Fletcher's goal ten minutes later. James Beattie continued his fine goalscoring form by bringing Sheffield United level with 15 minutes remaining but Watson made no mistake from 12 yards with a minute left.
Charlton Athletic scored twice within the space of five first-half minutes as they beat Leicester City 2-0 at The Valley. Chris Iwelumo volleyed home the opener from close range (18) before playing a part in The Addicks' second, which was scored by Luke Varney.
Ten-man Queens Park Rangers held Championship leaders Watford at Loftus Road. Adam Johnson headed The Hornets ahead after half-time but the hosts hauled themselves level through Stefan Moore (59). Rangers ended the game a man light when Mikele Leigertwood was sent-off but Watford could not make the numerical advantage count.
West Bromwich Albion came back from a goal down to defeat Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park. Andy Crosby slotted home from the spot after Carl Hoefkens was adjudged to have fouled Martin Paterson as the hosts had the lead at the break. However, Leon Barnett equalised from a corner (49) and Chris Brunt gave The Baggies a deserved lead on the hour mark. Felipe Teixeira scored what turned out to be the winner in the 78th minute, with Paterson setting up an exciting finish by pulling a goal back late on.
Francis Jeffers lobbed Hull City goalkeeper Boaz Myhill five minutes before half-time as Brian Laws' Sheffield Wednesday secured their first win of the new Championship season against their Yorkshire rivals.
Martin Devaney scored deep into stoppage time as Barnsley claimed all three points at St Mary's after losing the lead in the last minute. Grant McCann fired home from 20-yard free-kicks twice in the first-half (27 & 40) but Southampton were boosted on half-time when Marek Saganowski pulled one back and then again after the break with Dominik Werling's sending off. The ten-men of Barnsley finally succumbed to Inigo Idiakez in the 90th minute but Devaney struck at the other end soon after.
Marcel Seip scored at both ends as Stoke City edged Plymouth Argyle 3-2 at the Britannia Stadium. Seip put through his own goal in the 10th minute but then levelled things up after half-time (52). Rory Fallon handed Plymouth the lead on the hour mark only for Liam Lawrence to score for Stoke seven minutes later. Ricardo Fuller ended a manic start to the second half with the winner in the 73rd minute.
Wolverhampton Wanderers were 2-0 winners against a Norwich City side that ended the game with just nine men. Wolves went ahead midway through the first-half when full-back Kevin Foley fired past David Marshall from the edge of the area. A great individual goal from Andy Keogh put the hosts in control with ten minutes left before the break and Norwich's task was made even harder on the hour mark after having Jason Shackell sent off. The Canaries ended the game two men short when Julien Brellier was also shown a red card at Molineux.
