Sporting Lisbon have completed the signing of striker Bas Dost from Wolfsburg.
The 27-year-old Netherlands international has joined the Portuguese Primeira club as they prepare to let go Islam Slimani, who is in advanced talks with Leicester City.
Newcastle had been interested in Dost but the player preferred a move to another Champions League club.
Wolfsburg sporting director of football Klaus Allofs said: "We have agreed to sell Bas Dost to Sporting because we managed to agree on the financial aspects of the transfer.
"It was not an easy decision, since we originally wanted to extend Bas Dost's contract beyond 2017, but we were unable to agree on this with him.
"Bas Dost was regularly a guarantee for success for us during his four seasons in Wolfsburg, but he was often unlucky with injuries.
"We wish Bas all the best and that he has a lot of success in Lisbon, and we thank him for everything he did for Wolfsburg."
Dost joined the Wolfsburg from Heerenveen in 2012 and scored 36 goals in 85 Bundesliga appearances.
Wolfsburg signed Germany striker Mario Gomez earlier this summer as well as Real Madrid's Borja Mayoral on loan, and are also known to be interested in Tottenham's Heung-Min Son.
