Colchester have signed experienced defender Nicky Shorey on a free transfer until the end of the season.
The 34-year-old left-back has spent the last six months playing for Pune City in India.
The former Leyton Orient, Reading, Aston Villa, West Brom, Bristol City and Portsmouth defender has two England caps and played for the Royals in the Premier League.
After leaving Portsmouth last summer he moved to Pune under the management of former England international David Platt.
With his contract up in India he returned to the UK and has joined the U's until the end of the season after training with the club.
