League Two leaders Port Vale suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of struggling Morecambe on Saturday afternoon.
On-loan Torquay defender Keiran Charnock was the home side's hero with his first goal for Morecambe giving the Shrimps their first win in five games. The goal came after 27 minutes when Charnock was in the right place at the right time to sidefoot home Laurence Wilson's volley. Port Vale started brightly with Kris Taylor testing Barry Roche in the first minute with a long-range effort. Morecambe hit back almost immediately with Phil Jevons forcing Stuart Tomlinson to save low to his right after a quickly-taken free-kick. Tomlinson saved smartly again from a Jimmy Spencer effort and a Jevons shot that took a wicked deflection. But the visitors always threatened with Marc Richards volleying wide from a good opening and missing the ball completely when he had a free header. A Doug Loft volley went just over after 42 minutes as Vale continued to threaten before the half-time whistle. The second half saw few chances with the best falling to Vale's Justin Richards but he headed wide from Loft's corner when he looked certain to score.
