Irish U21s slump to third consecutive defeat
Republic of Ireland Under 21s remain pointless in their Euro 2009 qualifying group after a 1-0 defeat to Montenegro in Podgorica.
It was the third successive defeat for the Republic in Group Three and they have yet to score in those games.
Just as they had against Portugal and England, the Republic conceded an early goal when Goran Vujovic netted in the fourth minute and they failed to produce an equaliser.
Stoke striker Adam Rooney had a chance to level in the 27th minute but failed to beat goalkeeper Bojan Radanovic.
However, Ilija Spasojevic and Vujovic then both wasted chances to increase the home side's lead before the break.
In the second half, Radanovic made an important save to deny Rooney once again and another Irish chance was wasted in the 78th minute when Everton's Aidan Downes volleyed over from a Stephen Quinn cross.
Conor Sammon also failed to hit the target when he headed across goal from close range in the 89th minute as the Republic, whose next game is at home to Bulgaria on Tuesday, were forced to accept defeat.
