Borussia Monchengladbach snapped a three-game losing streak to keep up with the chasing pack at the top of the Bundesliga thanks to a 3-2 win over Hertha Berlin.

Tony Jantschke gave Gladbach the lead after 10 minutes, but it was his mistake which allowed Julian Schieber to level for Berlin on the stroke of half-time.

Gladbach wasted chance after chance before Raffael put them in front and Thorgan Hazard put the points in the bank.

A late penalty from Salomon Kalou was merely a consolation for Hertha.

Gladbach came into the game off the back of a three-game losing streak and an early goal was the ideal way to start their search for three points against Hertha Berlin.

They got it in the ninth minute when Hazard's curling free-kick was met by a diving header form Jantschke, whose fifth headed goal in the Bundesliga and first of the current season put the Foals in front.

Gladbach then sat back and invited pressure on them, but when they broke, they were always a threat.

Patrick Herrmann probably should have gone for goal when he got in around the back, but he instead looked for Hazard and his pass was intercepted.

A free-kick soon after nearly led to the second goal with Max Kruse curling the ball in for Roel Brouwers, but his header was saved well by Kraft.

Thomas Kraft kept Berlin in the game with saves from Hazard and Max Kruse before Hertha made the breakthrough at the other end.

Schieber headed in a cross from Anis Ben-Hatira with Jantschke going from hero to villain as he played the former Borussia Dortmund onside.

Gladbach regained the lead early in the second half when Raffael turned in a cross from Alvaro Dominguez to score against his former club.

Kruse could and, given the reactions of the Gladbach fans, should have given Gladbach a cushion midway through the second half, but he took too long and allowed the defence to recover.

Chances were wasted by Hazard and Ibrahim Traore before Gladbach's third goal finally came in the 83rd minute.

Raffael's shot was blocked, but Hazard was on hand to turn the loose ball in from close range.

Jantschke was involved in Berlin's second as he fouled Kalou, who converted the resulting spot-kick, although it was too little too late for the visitors.
