Millwall 2-0 Northampton: Late Lions goals sink Cobblers
Tuesday 6 October 2015 21:58, UK
Goals from Aiden O'Brien and Lewis Gregory sent Millwall into the Johnstone's Paint Trophy area quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Northampton.
Cobblers goalkeeper Ryan Clarke superbly resisted Millwall's attempts until the 70th minute when O'Brien struck his first senior goal at the Den.
Gregory added the second soon after and Millwall eventually sealed the win, despite late efforts from Town threatening a comeback.
Northampton had seen off Sky Bet League One side Peterborough in the previous round, but Millwall were denied the lead three times in the first half, starting with O'Brien hitting a post from a tight angle.
Clarke then made a brilliant double save at near point-blank range from forward Steve Morison, who did well to stay on his feet.

And the keeper continued to frustrate Millwall and Morison, who saw headers either side of the break palmed away.
However, Clarke could do nothing about O'Brien's excellent strike from the edge of the area and Millwall doubled up four minutes later as Gregory tapped in from a Morison cross.
Home nerves jangled when Lawson D'Ath struck the woodwork with his right foot for Town, but Millwall saw out the win, with Morison denied yet again by Clarke in stoppage time.
