Second-half goals from Clement Grenier and Yoann Gourcuff helped Lyon to a 2-0 win over struggling Sochaux on Saturday night. It was as regulation a win as the home side could have hoped for, with relegation-haunted Sochaux never looking like the side which beat Rennes last time out and more like the one with just two league wins to its name this season. Lyon enjoyed the bulk of the chances throughout and, after a wasteful first half, finally took some of them in the second period to take a first win in three. They had plenty of opportunities to do so, with Gueida Fofana the first culprit as he slapped over following great work from Bafetembi Gomis. Anthony Lopes then saved well from Cedric Bakambu at the other end, but Lyon's chances continued, with Alexandre Lacazette even more wasteful from close range. Gomis then took aim himself as a volley skipped just wide and the pressure told with 55 minutes on the clock. Grenier was the scorer, lining up a free-kick from 20 yards and sending an unstoppable 20-yard shot into the top left corner. The goal gave Sochaux a poke and Jordan Ayew drew a save from Lopes, but Lyon quickly returned to the front foot. Gourcuff crossed for Samuel Umtiti to have a header cleared off the line, before with 16 minutes left Grenier's cross found Gomis and, although he could not get a clean connection, Gourcuff was on hand to crack in a brilliant clinching volley.
