Luton made it three wins in a row by beating managerless Chesterfield 1-0 at Kenilworth Road.
The hosts went close early on, Danny Hylton heading Jack Stacey's cross over, while Luke Gambin blasted narrowly wide.
Matthew Briggs' low effort forced Marek Stech into a save, with the keeper also using his legs well to deny Andy Kellett from 16 yards.
With two minutes to go until half-time, Luton should have led, Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu heading wide from close range.
After the break, Town were ahead on 53 minutes when Jordan Cook sent Hylton away and he cut inside before firing beyond Joe Anyon.
The visitors almost equalised, Louis Reed sending a diving header wide, while Luton pushed for a second, Hylton shooting into the side-netting, Collins nodding at Anyon and Cook blasting over.
Mpanzu was shown a straight red on 77 minutes after a high challenge on Kellett, but sub Harry Cornick almost made it 2-0, hitting the outside of the post.
James Collins missed two glorious late opportunities for the hosts, but Hatters had done enough.
