Lille and Bastia played out a dour Ligue 1 0-0 stalemate at the Grand Stade Metropole.
Lille and Bastia played out a dour Ligue 1 stalemate at the Grand Stade Metropole. Dimitri Payet's free-kick against the post in the first half was as good as it got in terms of goalmouth action, with the hosts controlling the game but unable to take advantage. The result leaves both teams firmly in mid-table, with Lille having scored just 16 goals and conceded 15 in 15 games this season. Bastia scarcely threatened after the 11th minute when from Florian Thauvin's corner, Anthony Modeste's volley was blocked. Payet almost opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Julian Palmieri fouled Florent Balmont and Payet's free-kick from out wide curled against the upright. Payet went close again late in the first half when he fired just wide after being set up by Marvin Martin, but it was goalless at the interval. Nolan Roux headed Payet's free-kick over early in the second half and Martin found Aurelien Chedjou for a first-time shot which flew wide. Balmont carved out another chance for Roux just before the hour mark, but the striker shot just wide from 20 yards. The only save of the game came a minute into stoppage time. Ilan Araujo fouled Idrissa Gana Gueye and Chedjou's powerful effort was kept out by Landry Bonnefoi to preserve a clean sheet and a point for Bastia.
