Scottish Cup: Inverness CT dominate St Mirren with 4-0 drubbing

Inverness CT dominated St Mirren with a convincing 4-0 win in the Scottish Cup replay at Caledonian Stadium to continue their unbeaten run at home this season.

Inverness are yet to lose at home and St Mirren rarely looked like troubling that record as Caley Thistle ran away to a two-goal lead by half-time.

The two sides drew 1-1 in their Cup tie last week, but there was no such balance of power in the re-match.

Garry Warren was first on the scoresheet for Inverness on 20 minutes when he connected with a Greg Tansey corner, glancing a header towards the near post and past St Mirren keeper Mark Ridgers.

It was a nightmare evening for Jim Goodwin in his first-team return after a three-match suspension for elbowing. Goodwin not only conceded the corner which led to Inverness’ opening goal, but was responsible for a 23rd minute penalty after he slipped and fell while chasing Marley Watkins, tripping up the Inverness midfielder. Greg Tansey converted to secure Inverness a 2-0 half-time lead.

The third goal came at 67 minutes with a Billy McKay shot rattling off the underside of the crossbar and St Mirren failing to clear the rebound, allowing Danny Williams to capitalise with an easy finish, scoring his first goal of the season.

Graeme Shinnie rounded out a resounding victory, slotting home his side's fourth goal in the second minute of injury time.

Inverness now move into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup, and will met Partick Thistle in February at Firhill.
