Joe Hart was at fault for Mauro Icardi's first goal as Inter Milan beat Torino 2-1 in Serie A on Wednesday.
In the 35th minute the Inter skipper benefited from a mistake by Hart, who could only push Antonio Candreva's through ball into the former Barcelona trainee's feet, before he finished with ease.
Icardi then took a major step towards regaining the adoration of Inter Milan fans, while also throwing boss Frank de Boer a lifeline, as he scored a second in the 88th minute to secure victory.
The Inter captain has fallen out of favour with the home faithful following comments he made in his new autobiography, with Ultras demanding he is stripped of the armband.
But fans may start to reconsider their standpoint after watching the Argentinian rescue three points with a 88th-minute winner in response to Andrea Belotti's equaliser.
The victory will also strengthen De Boer's grip on the head coach role which he risked losing in the wake of three straight defeats.
After Hart's error presented Inter with the opener, Belotti, the newly minted Italy striker, levelled shortly after the hour by driving a powerful shot beyond Samir Handanovic.
Inter looked destined to settle for a disappointing draw, with Marcelo Brozovic fluffing his lines from close range, until Icardi decided to come to the party.
With three minutes remaining, he held the ball up in the penalty area before fizzing an unstoppable strike past a beleaguered Hart.
Elsewhere, Juventus maintained their two-point cushion at the top of the table following a routine 4-1 home win over Sampdoria.
Mario Mandzukic and Giorgio Chiellini headed goals inside the opening 10 minutes before Patrik Schick pulled a goal back for the visitors.
Miralem Pjanic added a third before Chiellini grabbed his second to complete a good night for the champions.
Edin Dzeko continued his hot streak in front of goal with a double as Roma battled back from a goal down to win 3-1 at Sassuolo.
The Bosnia international has now scored 10 goals in as many games and Roma needed his scoring touch after they fell behind to Paolo Cannavaro's 12th-minute header.
Dzeko netted twice after half-time before Radja Nainggolan made the points safe, although Roma's night was soured by a knee injury to their Italy international Alessandro Florenzi.
Crotone claimed just their second point of the season following a 1-1 draw with Fiorentina at a rain-sodden Stadio Artemio Franchi.
The match suffered a long delay due to the weather before Diego Falcinelli fired the visitors ahead only for Davide Astori to deny them a first league win of the season with an 85th-minute equaliser.
In-form Ciro Immobile scored a double as Lazio beat Cagliari 4-1. Balde Keita fired Lazio ahead before Immobile sent them 3-0 up inside the opening half-hour.
Felipe Anderson added a fourth for Lazio after 79 minutes before Wallace's late own goal offered Cagliari some consolation.
Napoli beat Empoli 2-0 thanks to goals from Dries Mertens and Vlad Chiriches while Pescara's miserable run continued as Mattia Caldara scored the only goal in a 1-0 defeat to Atalanta.
Ibrahima Mbaye's own goal prevented Bologna from picking up a first win in five as they drew 1-1 at Chievo, for whom Erick Pulgar scored.
