Huddersfield 0-0 Man City: Replay required after FA Cup stalemate

Huddersfield and Manchester City face an FA Cup fifth-round replay after a tightly-contested goalless draw at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday.

With the two sides competing at the top of the Championship and Premier League, respectively, there were 15 changes in total.

There were chances to avoid a replay, with Jesus Navas seeing a shot blocked on the line in the first half for City and Nolito volleying narrowly wide.

Philip Billing had the ball in the net for Huddersfield but it was ruled out for offside, while Claudio Bravo kept out Rajiv van La Parra's first-time shot.

City enjoyed the better of the second half but Sergio Aguero's shot was well tipped around the post by Joel Coleman.

The replay will take place in the week starting February 27.

Given Huddersfield are challenging for automatic promotion in the Championship and City are competing in the Premier League and Champions League, another fixture would probably not have been top of either of their wishlists.

And both managers made clear their priorities by making a number of changes, with Bravo and Aguero among those to start for City, while Leroy Sane, Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling dropped to the bench.

Huddersfield created the first opening in the sixth minute as Collin Quaner teed up Van La Parra on the edge of the box. He struck his shot well but straight at Bravo.

City went close shortly afterwards but Nolito could not lift his attempt over Coleman and Navas' follow-up was blocked on the line by Mark Hudson.

The visitors started to take some control of the game after 20 minutes and Aguero was presented with an opportunity after Coleman came out of his area then backtracked, but his lofted shot from distance went over the bar.

Minutes later, Billing had the ball in the net for Huddersfield, only for the flag to go up for offside as Van La Parra was standing in front of Bravo.

Fabian Delph shot at Coleman and Nolito volleyed wide as City threatened sporadically.

But Huddersfield also had their moments and Van La Parra saw a first-time effort saved by Bravo after good play from Quaner down the right flank.

Aguero, who was rarely involved in the first half, had his first sight of goal in the 41st minute when he saw a shot saved by Coleman.

City upped their game after half-time and Aguero was again denied by Coleman, who did well to tip a shot wide of the post.

Nolito then had an effort blocked before Sane and De Bruyne were introduced by Pep Guardiola in a bid to force a winner.

But Huddersfield slowed City's momentum with changes of their own, bringing on Nahki Wells and Elias Kachunga, and neither side could snatch victory.
