Kristian Bak Nielsen opened the scoring for the home side after just four minutes, but Feyenoord restored parity through Roy Makaay.
However, Heerenveen made it 2-1 prior to the interval, with Danijel Pranjic on target, before substitute Arnor Smarason sealed the success.
