Second-placed Aberdeen missed out on the chance to extend their lead over Rangers to 12 points after losing 1-0 at Hamilton, who move off the bottom.

Mikey Devlin scored the only goal as Hamilton moved off the foot of the Scottish Premiership table with a 1-0 victory over high-flying Aberdeen.

The Accies, who were reduced to 10 men seven minutes from time, certainly rode their luck to deny the Dons who missed the opportunity to move 12 points clear of third-place Rangers.

The decisive moment arrived as early as the 10th minute when Devlin volleyed home from 12 yards, after latching on to Danny Redmond's free-kick.

As the visitors chased an equaliser, Adam Rooney was in the thick of the action, twice firing wide before heading Niall McGinn's cross against a post .

McGinn also went close more than once but the Accies survived through to half-time.

And the visitors continued to dominate after the break, with Kenny McLean forcing a decent save out of Gary Woods before Hamilton's goal-hero Devlin headed off his own line to deny Shay Logan.

Ryan Jack also tried his luck but, once again, the home defence held firm while Dons' substitute Miles Storey had the ball in the net, only for the referee to rule it out for offside.

As the clocked ticked down, Hamilton's Darian MacKinnon collected his second yellow card of the evening, the last one for body-checking Graeme Shinnie.

However, Aberdeen could still not grab an equaliser, having arrived in South Lanarkshire on the back of eight wins in their past nine league games.

The stats showed how one-sided the contest was, with a corner count of 21-0 in favour of the Pittodrie side who had 15 shots to just three from the hosts.

As for the plucky Accies, their second win in 17 moves them from 12th to ninth to boost their chances of avoiding relegation.
