Younousse Sankhare's second-half header was enough for Guingamp to claim a home win over Nantes.
Younousse Sankhare's second-half header was enough for Guingamp to claim a home win over fellow newly-promoted side Nantes. Both clubs have enjoyed a flying start to life back in Ligue 1 and while Nantes made most of the chances they were made to pay for failing to find the net. Sankhare looped in a header on 61 minutes to move Guingamp a point behind sixth-placed Nantes in the table. The away side, who have now lost their past two league games, created all of the best chances in the first half. Top-scorer Filip Dordevic needed only two minutes to get his first sight of goal, El Hadji Djilobodji releasing him through on goal, but home goalkeeper Guy N'Dy Assembe made the block. Fernando Aristeguieta drove a low shot inches wide after 22 minutes when Vincent Bessat made space down the left and crossed. Bessat then muscled his way through the defence moments later and found Alejandro Bedoya whose shot was blocked by N'Dy Assembe. Guingamp had hardly threatened before they took the lead on the hour following some ping-pong in the box. Thibault Giresse's corner was not properly cleared and when the defence then again failed to deal with Christophe Kerbrat's follow-up shot they were made to pay. Ladislas Douniama quickly crossed for Sankhare whose header lacked pace but had enough to beat the out-of-position Remy Riou. Nantes tried to respond immediately and N'Dy Assembe needed two attempts to keep out a low Aristeguieta volley. Aristeguieta then turned provider for Bessat whose turn and shot was kept out by N'Dy Assembe's best save of the match. Christophe Mandanne almost made it 2-0 for Guingamp six minutes from the end, getting his head on a Claudiu Beauvue cross from the left, but Riou blocked.
