Lewis Montrose scored before seeing red as nine-man Gillingham brought Oxford's unbeaten run to an end with a 1-0 victory.
Midfielder Montrose lashed home from 20 yards on the stroke of half-time in Saturday's League Two clash at Priestfield, before Joe Martin picked up a second booking early in the second half, with the former being dismissed late on. Martin picked up his first booking for a tackle from behind on Damian Batt before Gills keeper Ross Flitney kept out Robert Hall's stinging effort. But it was Gillingham who broke the deadlock when the ball was half-cleared to Montrose who fired into the top corner from 20 yards. The Gills' task became far harder three minutes after the break when Martin picked up a second yellow. Robert Hall was twice put clean through but found Flitney equal to his efforts, but Gillingham, despite seeing Montrose sent off for a challenge on Asa Hall, held onto move into the play-off places.
