Gills keep promotion bid on track
Substitute Dennis Oli's header two minutes from time gave promotion-chasing Gillingham a priceless 2-1 victory over Dagenham.
Oli rose highest to head home John Nutter's inswinging free-kick after Sam Saunders' strike just before the break had cancelled out Mark McCammon's opener.
The Gills took the lead after seven minutes when McCammon was on hand to smash home after Nutter's piledriver was parried into his path by keeper Tony Roberts.
The home side threatened again before half-time when the lively Simeon Jackson pulled back for midfielder Stuart Lewis, whose side-foot finish was well saved by Roberts.
A moment of magic from Ben Strevens helped the Daggers haul themselves back into the match four minute before the break, his neat turn and cut-back gifted Saunders an easy far post tap in.
On the hour, Garry Richards' raking 60-yard pass picked out McCammon, who controlled well before seeing his volley blocked by Roberts, but the Gills grabbed their first win in five matches thanks to Oli's late goal.
