Stefan Payne struck on the stroke of half-time as Dover dumped League Two Morecambe out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win.
The Conference side, who more than matched the visitors and could have extended their lead after the break, will take their place in the hat for the second round thanks to Payne's 45th-minute goal. Morecambe should have opened the scoring when Jack Redshaw danced in from the left flank to force Andy Rafferty into an unconvincing save. But Dover soon began to take control of the half and midfielder Chris Kinnear - son of the Whites' manager of the same name - forced an excellent save from loanee Joe Lumley. The hosts found the breakthrough just before the interval when former Fulham youngster Payne rolled a low left-footed effort past Lumley, who only signed for the Shrimps on Friday. Dover nearly added to their lead when Nicky Deverdics curled a tame effort at Lumley, before Tom Murphy blazed over the top. Alex Kenyon then made a late run into the box from a corner but his powerful unmarked header was just about cleared off the Dover line. Rafferty was twice forced into smart saves in the dying stages but Dover preserved their slender advantage.
