Notts County won 1-0 at Doncaster to set up a Northern Area semi-final clash with Preston in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
The Magpies scored against the run of play in the 74th minute at the Keepmoat Stadium when Liam Noble drove into the bottom corner from 20 yards and that proved decisive. Shaun Derry's men were up against it at the time and they could have been behind shortly before but referee David Webb disallowed Kyle Bennett's impressive solo goal after consulting with his linesman, who ruled the interfering Curtis Main to be in an offside position. Rovers had done much of the pressing in the first half as well, with visiting keeper Roy Carroll being forced into a save he knew nothing about when Bennett's cross ricocheted off Noble and hit the Northern Ireland international in the chest, while the influential Bennett also curled a free-kick just wide. Noble's moment of quality 16 minutes from time knocked the wind out of Doncaster's sails and they could muster little in the way of a response, with Derry's men advancing to the regional last four.
