Crewe prevail in five-goal thriller
Danny O'Donnell scored a dramatic last-gasp winner as Crewe stunned high-flying Scunthorpe with a 3-2 victory at Gresty Road.
The visitors were handed an 11th-minute penalty when Martyn Woolford was tripped by Luke Murphy but Paul Hayes put his spot-kick feebly wide.
He did, however, make amends eight minutes later, turning in Gary Hooper's cross after some woeful Crewe defending.
After the break Alex keeper Stuart Tomlinson denied Matthew Sparrow and Hooper went close with a bicycle kick, before Shaun Miller blasted over from eight yards out for Crewe.
But the Railwaymen were level in the 59th minute when Marcus Williams brought down John Brayford in the box and Michael O'Connor kept his nerve to drill home the penalty.
The Iron were back in front in the 69th minute when O'Donnell miscued his goal-line clearance into his own net but Luke Murphy found Clayton Donaldson in the box and he turned and fired the ball past goalkeeper Joe Murphy to level.
Former Liverpool youth player O'Donnell then went from villain to hero for the Railwaymen when he was in the right place at the right time to stab home the winner in injury time.
